If you (V1) or your crew (V6) are interested in competing in the following divisions, please email ivfsprints@canadianoutrigger.ca by April 6. If there is more interest than available spots, crews/individuals will need to race off at the CORA National Sprints Regatta in Delta on April 27/28. Paddlers competing for Canada are required to be in Hilo Aug 13-24, 2024, and be residents or citizens of Canada.
Please note that this has been an exceptional year for PNWORCA 2024 Winter Series racing with 320 participants across 6 races so far, with 56 OC1 Masters participants so far, with at least 10 Canadians in contention to win their Boat / Gender / Age Division, with 4 Canadians in contention to win the Peter Forand Masters Challenge Trophy where the Winter Series Finale will determine which of the Top 7 OC1 Masters Paddlers will hoist the Peter Forand Masters Challenge Trophy during the Awards Presentation.
Please note that even though the PNWORCA Official Winter Series Points System Rules state: You must complete at least 3 races in the series to qualify for awards, which are presented at the final race at the end of the season. Awards are given to the Top 3 Finishers. The PNWORCA Official Winter Series Points System Rules have not been updated to reflect that the PNWORCA / CORA Small-Boat Racing Winter Series Championship Event host is now conferring awards only to participants at the Championship race based on placings. Please take this opportunity to support Washington and Oregon clubs who send paddlers to support Canadian events.
CORA / PNWORCA continue to track Winter Series Points / Participation for all participants at all Winter Series races. The Peter Forand Masters Challenge Trophy will be presented in-person to the Top OC1 Masters paddler across the 7 Winter Series races at the Championship Awards presentation. CORA will also acknowledge on the CORA website any Canadian paddlers that are one of the Top 3 Finishers in their Boat / Gender / Age Division.
CORA is hosting the Canadian 2024 Outrigger National Sprint Championships at Deas Island Regional Park on the April 27-28 weekend. CORA is taking the lead on hosting this Outrigger Sprints Regatta with the assistance of CORA Board members representing clubs from Vancouver Island, Lower Mainland, Okanagan / Interior and Eastern Canada. CORA Board members and CORA clubs are collaborating with the intent of making these championships at Deas Island Regional Park an bi-annual event. There will be V1 and V6 500M events, as well as V6 1000M (3-turn) events over the course of the weekend. Deas Island Regional Park has become the site for major canoeing / dragon boating / kayaking / rowing events over the past few years.

CORA has secured the Deas Island Regional Park racecourse with 4 -6 lanes (due to low tides), as well as access to parking lots and the Delta Deas Rowing Club (DDRC) venue for the weekend.
500M V1 and V6 races are on a 500M course (no turns). 1000M V6 races are on a 250M course and will require 3 turns. Lanes will be 14m wide. Crews will use 3 lanes for the 1000m turn races (outbound/inbound). All V6 races will be in ARE Matahina canoes and V1 races will be Mako V1s, both V1s and V6s will be provided by ARE Outrigger World. If you have not trained in an ARE Matahina, please familiarize yourself with its turning radius by watching IVF World Sprint events or ARE Outrigger World footage on YouTube.
All registered V1 racers and V6 crews will have the opportunity to race 3 times on the 500m course, from qualifying heats through semi-finals and finals, and V6 crews will have the opportunity to race at least once on the 1000m course. Note: crew and solo racers must register in only ONE AGE DIVISION in a gender division, plus mixed.
Please note the following requirements in place to ensure efficient racing:
V1 racers will compete in Men’s and Women’s divisions over the 500m course. Note that solo racers must only register in ONE AGE DIVISION for the V1 races.
V6 crews will compete in Men’s, Women’s and Mixed divisions over the 500m course and the 1000m (buoy-turn) course. Racers on V6 crews must only race in ONE AGE DIVISION in a gender division, plus Mixed. Racers in Men’s and Women’s V6 crews may also compete in Mixed V6 crews.
Online crew roster forms will sent to all registered team captains (team registrants) over the 13-14 April weekend, and must submitted no later than Friday 19 April. Accompanying hard-copy waivers must be uploaded in advance and the originals brought to the registration table no later than 60-minutes prior to your first race: V6 CrewAdult WaiversandJunior Informed Consents are available for download. V1 racers will have already submitted Adult Waivers and Junior Informed Consents electronically through the registration website, but must check-in to confirm CORA Membership.
