2012 World Sprints - Cultural Night

Day 3 – the Calgary Canoe Club put on another day of amazing racing. Team Canada took home medals in 10 more events! The day wrapped up with the the Cultural Night. Teams from Canada, NZ, Rapa Nui, Hawaii provided the entertainment with chanting, singing and dancing.

Days 4 and 5 are all about turns with 1000m and 1500m races. Live streaming is available on the 2012 Sprint website – check it out and see who makes the best turns and how they do it!.

IVF World Sprints – Day Two

Day Two was another successful day on the reservoir at Calgary. Conditions were similar  to day one – cool and breezy in the morning leading to sunny, mild afternoons.

While Team Tahiti did not make it, due to an airline strike, the competition has been fierce, with many photo finishes.

Hawaii and NZ are leading in the medal counts (23 for Hawaii, 20 for NZ) but Canada has the most GOLD with wins in 7 categories!

The day ended with the first round of medal presentations under the big tent. The crowd got to listen to Oh Canada many times…..

IVF World Sprints – Day One

Day One of racing at the 2012 World Sprints consisted of 83 races!

Thanks to the heroic efforts of Lynds Roberts and her merry band of volunteers, these 83 races were held finished on time – actually only 7 minutes late.

Canadian teams medalled with:

  • Bronze for the Master 70 Men – V12 500,
  • Gold for the Senior Master Men – V12 500,
  • Gold for the Golden Master Men – V12 500,
  • Gold for the Master Women – V12 500 and
  • Gold for the Master Men – V12 500.
