Attention Long Distance paddlers! Are you interested in representing Canada at the 2017 IVF World Distance Championships? This inaugural event will be hosted in Tahiti from June 3-5, 2017. Subsequent IVF World Distance Championships will be held every 2 years, offsetting years of the IVF World Sprint Championships. For detailed information consult the IVF website.
The CORA board would like to gauge member interest in attending this inaugural IVF World Distance Championship event. We are asking all interested individuals to fill out the online intent-to-compete registration form (link expired) by June 15, 2016 to determine if there will be a need for crew selection race-offs.

The IVF site states that only 1 crew per country in Junior, Open and Masters (40) can be entered. Is there any prospect of older categories being added, or does the IVF have the idea that us wrinklies couldn’t handle the distance?

Correct, age categories are as stated. No categories for the ‘oldies’ as of now. Age categories are the same as sprints therefore 40’s means paddler must be atleast 40 years of age. Older paddlers may race down, therefore Canada could have crews that are 50’s 60’s but they would have to race down to 40’s or Open.

Hi Paddlers,
In addition to the IVF Long Distance comments, here is a better option for the over 40 paddlers.

There may be some interest for the 40+ crew. We have some strong Masters paddlers who are interested in exploring this race.
