We have sent the following email to all CORA Club Contacts regarding CORA's new application process for 2020 Race Sanctioning.

If your Club contact, executives or race directors have changed, please provide them with this information.

***************

Aloha CORA Club contacts,

For 2020 CORA-sanctioned races, CORA will be implementing a new date selection and sanctioning process with deadlines as early as August 31, 2019.

Please ensure you share this e-mail with your executive boards and any race director in your club.

CORA membership feedback has shown that:

  1. the race season calendar can often be too crowded;

  2. there is an appetite and interest for new races / race sites / race formats; and

  3. it would be beneficial if race date conflicts between proposed races be identified and resolved prior to the AGM / CORA Technical meeting.

With these points in mind, CORA is implementing a stepwise process for the 2020 race date selection and sanctioning, as follows:

  • August 31, 2019 - Preliminary deadline for submission of proposed race details and date at the following link:  https://forms.gle/Mjg5DYgEAiV536bp6&source=gmail&ust=1565991690088000&usg=AFQjCNH0urh3gJz0C3jwhUTsAXE7_HklS A"> https://forms.gle/Mjg5DYgEAiV536bp6   Once you've completed this, your tentative race date will be uploaded to the new CORA website race calendar  https://canadianoutrigger.ca/races/race-schedule-for-race-directors/&source=gmail&ust=1565991690281000&usg=AFQjCNEoONSR9Ldr4Ki_zKUwrxZnNvkPn Q"> https://canadianoutrigger.ca/races/race-schedule-for-race-directors/     and marked as “requested”.  All submissions at this stage are proposals and will be treated equally.  There is no guarantee that you will receive your requested race date and all race dates are to be considered movable.  [NOTE:  remember to scroll through the dates to enter a date for 2020, not 2019].

  • September 4, 2019 - September CORA Board Meeting.  The CORA Board will review race applications received prior to August 31, 2019 and identify any conflicts between requested dates.  Conflicts may include the proposals for the same date or in the case of CORA Cup races, insufficient separation between races in the CORA Cup series.  The CORA Board will exchange contact information between Clubs whose proposals conflict so the Club contacts may come to an amicable resolution among themselves (ie revised proposals).

  • September 28, 2019 - Deadline for Club to Club resolution of conflicts.  Any remaining conflicts in the proposed race schedule will be identified and referred to the CORA Board for determination.

  • October 2, 2019 - October CORA Board Meeting.  The CORA Board will review the proposed 2020 race schedule including remaining conflicting race proposals and determine which proposal(s) are to be supported and presented at the CORA AGM.  All race applicants will be contacted and unsuccessful race applicants will be invited to submit a revised race proposal within the then current proposed 2020 race schedule. Successful applicants will be asked to submit a more detailed race application prior to the CORA AGM.

  • Late October/Early November 2019 (TBD) - CORA Technical Meeting and AGM.  Final approval of 2020 CORA Race Calendar.

Guidelines for applicants:

  • To minimize conflicts, Clubs are encouraged to review the new CORA website race calendar at the above link before making race submissions and be aware of other race applications.

  • Clubs are also encouraged to make separate submissions for their proposed race if alternate dates are available.  Include in the name of the proposed race the following:
“Preferred Date”, “Alternate 1” or “Alternate 2” (i.e. Burrard Iron (Preferred Date), Burrard Iron (Alternate 1), Burrard Iron (Alternate 2)). The CORA Board will consider these alternate dates in establishing conflicts.  The submission of an alternate date means that you will accept the alternate date, if chosen by the CORA Board, without further consultation with you.

  • Race proposals received by August 31, 2019 will have equal priority over proposals received at a later date.  All late submissions will be required to accommodate previously approved races. The final deadline for 2020 CORA race sanctioning will be April 30, 2020.

  • The preferred weekends for the five (5) 2020 CORA Cup races (maintaining 2 week separation) are:

    April 25/26, 2020
    May 9/10, 2020
    May 23/24, 2020
    June 6/7, 2020
    June 20/21, 2020
    July 4/5, 2020
    CORA Nationals - August 1/2, 2020 or August 8/9, 2020

  • Dates to avoid:

- Holiday weekends
- March 14/15, 2020 - IVF World Sprints Team Canada Selection Camp
- June 13/14, 2020 - IVF World Sprints Team Canada Training Camp

- August 15-23, 2020 - IVF World Sprints Hilo, Hawaii, USA
- Possible dragon boat festival dates.

It is hoped that by publishing the race applications received to-date, months in advance, this will provide an open process where race directors can see other race proposals.

Thank you for your support and for helping CORA to actively encourage race directors to submit their 2020 race applications as early as possible to support this new process.
