More about the Peter Forand Masters Challenge Trophy
The Canadian Outrigger Racing Association (CORA) and the Pacific North West Outrigger Racing Canoe Association (PNWORCA) announced this annual trophy at the 2017 Winter Series small boat races.
The award was created to acknowledge a Female or Male Masters age OC-1 paddler for both participation and performance throughout the 7 race series, The Peter Forand Masters Challenge Trophy is named for the late Peter Forand, who passed away unexpectedly during a Winter Series race in Vancouver last year. Peter was an avid paddler throughout his life and a keen racer of the CORA/PNWORCA Winter Series since its inception.
“Peter Forand was a great ambassador of the culture and camaraderie in the outrigger community, and we’re pleased to partner with PNWORCA and help bring this award to life” says Gralin Doubleday, CORA past president.
Fellow Jericho Outrigger Canoe Club paddler Ross Creasy added “Peter’s legacy as a competitive paddler on both sides of the border will live on through this award – acknowledging his peers and showing that outrigger really is a lifetime activity.”
