The CORA Off-the-Water Video Forum Series resumes this October 2022 with blockbuster presentations on back-to-back weekends including Canadian Outrigger Hall Of Fame Induction on SATURDAY NOVEMBER 5 ~ 4PM (PACIFIC) just 1 week after Outrigger Crew Selection on SATURDAY 29 OCTOBER ~ 4PM (PACIFIC).

CORA is hosting this online Town Hall presentation for 2022 Hall Of Fame inductees spread across Canada and the rest of the world. Microwave some popcorn, heat up a warm drink, curl up next to the fireplace, and join us this Autumn evening as our Inductees and Guest Speakers share with you some great stories.

Here is an opportunity to get to know those individuals who have been recognized this year such as Andrea Dillon, Grace Morissette, Don Mulhall, Rosemary Henry, Wendy Rae-Perkins, and Kamini Jain who have made significant and exemplary contributions to outrigger canoeing in Canada over their lifetimes as athletes / coaches-builders and as pioneers. Although their histories have been published on the CORA website, their friends and colleagues have personal insights they wish to share.

Guest speakers are being invited and are likely to include Leanne Stanley, Brian / Graham / Russell Henry, Doug Mancell, Ken Asano, Sheila Kuyper, Valerie Simmons, Nancy Botting, Susan Mott, Hugh Fisher, Melanie Whittall, Annie Boulding, and several other luminaries.

CORA Townhall: Outrigger Crew Selection

SATURDAY 29 OCTOBER ~ 4PM (PACIFIC)

You’re invited to join Dave Krueger (NAC) and Jill Schooler (Lanakila) as they discuss the challenges and rewards of selecting effective racing and training crews, both during the off-season, in preparation for races and at the start line. CORA’s table of guest coaches will consider a variety of circumstances in their discussion, including athlete baseline training, club capacity and program goals, safety and performance…as well as transparency in philosophy and selection metrics. Each seat role will also be considered when discussing how athletes are chosen in order to get the right results for the right conditions at the right races.

Meeting participants will have the opportunity to post questions to the panel, and the session will be recorded and added to the inventory of townhall discussions that CORA launched at the onset of the COVID lockdowns.

Everyone is welcome to attend, just as everyone is welcome to browse our townhall archive at any time.

See you (virtually) on Saturday 29 October at 4pm Pacific for this first townhall gathering of the 2022-23 fall/winter series.

Just in time for sprint season, here’s a great chance for Canadian paddlers to meet championship paddler and international paddling coach Vesna Radonich as she joins Canadian hosts (CORA’s board of directors) for a 90-minute masterclass on sprint racing.

Vesna will discuss her passion for sprint racing, and outline the technical, tactical and training approaches to helping outrigger paddlers get to the start-line with the preparation they need to finish with personal bests.

Why hone up on sprints? Because there are some great races coming up, including FGPC’s “Kan-U-Hakit” 1500m 2x-buoy-turn OC6 sprints (Sunday 6 March) and CORA’s Sprint Nationals (including crew and solo competitors) scheduled for Burnaby Lake over the weekend of 30 April & 1 May. Crews and solo athletes will benefit from Vesna’s training tips and tactical expertise specific to sprint performance.

PLEASE JOIN the CORA board and guest presenter Vesna on Saturday 26 February at 4pm Pacific for this 2nd in CORA’s townhall series.
