Canadian 2024 Outrigger National Sprint Championships (27-28 April) – Registration has now CLOSED; waitlists are being taken for crews and solo competitors

CORA is hosting the Canadian 2024 Outrigger National Sprint Championships at Deas Island Regional Park on the April 27-28 weekend. CORA is taking the lead on hosting this Outrigger Sprints Regatta with the assistance of CORA Board members representing clubs from Vancouver Island, Lower Mainland, Okanagan / Interior and Eastern Canada. CORA Board members and CORA clubs are collaborating with the intent of making these championships at Deas Island Regional Park an bi-annual event. There will be V1 and V6 500M events, as well as V6 1000M (3-turn) events over the course of the weekend. Deas Island Regional Park has become the site for major canoeing / dragon boating / kayaking / rowing events over the past few years.

CORA has secured the Deas Island Regional Park racecourse with 4 -6 lanes (due to low tides), as well as access to parking lots and the Delta Deas Rowing Club (DDRC) venue for the weekend.

All registered V1 racers and V6 crews will have the opportunity to race 3 times on the 500m course, from qualifying heats through semi-finals and finals, and V6 crews will have the opportunity to race at least once on the 1000m course. Note: crew and solo racers must register in only ONE AGE DIVISION in a gender division, plus mixed.

Please note the following requirements in place to ensure efficient racing:

  • V1 racers will compete in Men’s and Women’s divisions over the 500m course. 
    Note that solo racers must only register in ONE AGE DIVISION for the V1 races.
  • V6 crews will compete in Men’s, Women’s and Mixed divisions over the 500m course and the 1000m (buoy-turn) course. Racers on V6 crews must only race in ONE AGE DIVISION in a gender division, plus Mixed. Racers in Men’s and Women’s V6 crews may also compete in Mixed V6 crews.
  • Online crew roster forms will sent to all registered team captains (team registrants) over the 13-14 April weekend, and must submitted no later than Friday 19 April. Accompanying hard-copy waivers must be uploaded in advance and the originals brought to the registration table no later than 60-minutes prior to your first race: V6 Crew Adult Waivers and Junior Informed Consents are available for download.  V1 racers will have already submitted Adult Waivers and Junior Informed Consents electronically through the registration website, but must check-in to confirm CORA Membership.
  • Race Information Packages and Version 1 of the event Race Schedule will be distributed on or about 20 April.
  • The Race Schedule is in the process of being finalized; here is the draft (v1) structure:

  • All V1 racers and V6 crews must check-in at the Registration Desk on Saturday morning before their first race.  Please come early for check-in to avoid delays.
  • All racers must have valid CORA 2024 memberships. CORA Membership will be confirmed at check-in.
  • V6 Crew Adult Waivers and Junior Informed Consents must be submitted by e-mail (you’ll receive a reminder with e-mail address) or at check-in.  Please come early for check-in to avoid delays.
    V1 racers will have already submitted Adult Waivers and Junior Informed Consents electronically through the registration website, but must check-in to confirm CORA Membership.

            CORA seeks project manager (IVF sprint / distance coordination) to support the growth of Canada’s international team and solo competitors

            LOOKING FOR ADVENTUROUS WORK? 

            Canada’s non-profit outrigger racing association (CORA) is seeking a program manager to assist Canadian outrigger athletes to compete at international outrigger canoe races. This position works with a hands-on board as well as dedicated athletes and volunteers at regional, national and international levels to advance the sport of outrigger in Canada. If you have strong organizational and communication skills, disciplined time-management and the ability to travel internationally for one- to two-weeks each year, then this part-time year-round contract position may be an exciting opportunity.             POSITION SUMMARY

            This part-time year-round role manages CORA’s annual “IVF Sprint” and “IVF Distance” responsibilities through administration, coordination and communications that support Canada’s national teams, CORA “club” teams and solo athletes, both in pre-championship logistics and preparation as well as event participation on-site. The position will manage all aspects of CORA’s participation in IVF events, ensuring ongoing organization and communication throughout the sprint and distance cycles. The position will work with the board of the directors of the Canadian Outrigger Racing Association and associated working committees.
