Vernon Freshwater Challenge OC6 Change Race, Sunday, June 30, 2024

The Freshwater Challenge in Vernon, BC is quickly approaching (June 30th)!
As of June 21st, there are still 5 spaces open!
Join Kelowna Paddle Centre, Sudden Impact and Vernon Paddling Centre crews in this beach or water change-out race.

More information is contained in the attached poster, but it is an 8 x 5km lap relay race alternating men and women’s teams. All changes are at the same location and the change area has been set up so that either water or beach changes are possible, though water changes will be slightly advantageous. Spec boats will be started prior to the unlimited boats and the first of either to cross the finish line will win.

Jericho Paddling Club – OC1 and OC6 Outrigger Clinics, Vancouver, BC – June 15 & 16, 2024

The Jericho Paddling Club will be hosting two outrigger technique clinics with experienced teacher, coach, and world champion athlete Leanne Stanley from Kelowna, BC on Saturday, June 15, 2024 (OC1) and Sunday, June 16, 2024 (OC6) at the Jericho Sailing Centre, 1300 Discovery St, Vancouver, BC.

OC1 Clinic (Saturday, June 15, 2024): In this 2ish hour technical clinic, paddlers will build on Leanne’s Three L’s: Lock, Load & Launch. Leanne will take a deeper dive into stroke mechanics to reveal the intricacies that can be difference makers for many paddlers. Along with providing personal feedback for each paddlers, Leanne will go over stroke philosophy, different strokes for different situations, training/racing strategies, and more! This clinic is geared towards paddlers that feel they have a solid paddling foundation and want to find a way to squeak out some more speed.
Target group of paddlers is intermediate and advanced OC1 paddlers.
Clinic capacity is 12 and attendees need to provide their own boats.

OC6 Clinic (Sunday, June 16, 2024): This 2ish hour technical clinic, paddlers will build on Leanne’s Three L’s: Lock, Load & Launch. The session can be tailored to the needs of the paddlers/crews/clubs and usually focuses on crew blend. Leanne will go over stroke philosophy, body positioning, and stroke mechanics. Teams will come away with a repertoire of drills and strategies to help them self-assess their technique as individuals and as a crew.
Target group of paddlers is intermediate and advanced OC6 paddlers.
Clinic capacity is 12 and boats will be provided.

Clinic cost: $50 per paddler (each day is a separate clinic with a separate fee).

EDBRC OC1/OC2 Outrigger Clinic, Edmonton, AB – June 14, 2024

The Edmonton Dragon Boat Racing Club – Outrigger will be hosting an outrigger technique clinic with internationally renowned outrigger coach, Vesna Radonich of Gisborne, Aotearoa New Zealand, on Friday, June 14, 2024 at 5:00pm at Edmonton Dragonboat Racing Club, 10296 87 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5H 1N6, Canada.

The WakaFit OC1 / OC2 Functional workshop is 2 hours for paddlers to understand the functional movements of paddling, learn the skills, tools to enable the right muscles to be used in paddling to generate the most effective power output specific to single craft or OC2. Vesna will teach tips and techniques that will enable you to paddle smarter, straighter with more confidence and power in your stroke, along with rigging tips.

The workshop is open to all paddlers, all levels wanting to learn to be faster and smarter on and off the water. This will also ensure that our paddlers are paddling the smartest and effective way to minimize injury, increase power and enjoyment of paddling.

Clinic cost: $20 per paddler (Clinic capacity: 20 paddlers).
