CORA Coach Panel #2 (Sat, Mar 6, 2021): Making the Most of Available Resources, Pandemic or Not

SATURDAY, MARCH 6, 2021 / 4:00PM – 5.30PM (Pacific)
Presented by Kamini Jain and Andrea Dillon

The pandemic has given our vibrant solo canoe community a huge boost. Whether new or a veteran, one of the things we know about outrigger canoe is that there is always a way we can get faster. Keys to success include knowing what resources are available and how to utilize them for the most benefit. Any club, regardless of size or resident coaching, can develop and build a successful plan.

Kamini and Andrea will discuss resources such as technical coaching, training programs, training partners, mentors and machines; how to use them and how to choose them.

CORA Town Hall #2 (Sat, Feb 20, 2021): Solo Boats for Novices

Join CORA’s board and guest novice instructors and novice OC1 graduates at 4pm on Saturday 20 February. CORA clubs, coaches and leadership paddlers – as well as aspiring paddlers new to small boats – will have an opportunity to discuss Canada’s upcoming 2nd COVID spring and summer, and a second “solo” year for Canadian paddlers. Heading into the spring and summer of 2021, many traditional dragon boat and crew boat outrigger paddlers will be queuing up in greater numbers (2 or 3 meters apart) to get out on the water in solo boats.

This town hall will explore options, tips, tricks, and challenges that clubs and leadership paddlers can consider in order to foster great experiences for novice solo paddlers over 2021’s upcoming warmer-weather months. The conversation will be ushered along by the experiences of some younger coaches who spent Y2020 helping crew boat athletes gain confidence and mastery as solo paddlers.

Some paddlers who migrated from crew to solo boats will also describe their experiences, along with what helped them most along the way. Feel free to bring your questions and insights to this timely discussion as we prepare for the warmer months ahead.
